Meet the Counselors!

HislerGreetings from the Hoffman-Boston counseling office!  My name is Steve Hisler and I’m super excited to be an Hoffman-Boston All-Star!  I enjoy working with students in SEL Classes, small groups, and individually.  My goal is be a regular part of all students’ school day.  I hope each HFB All Star knows that I am here to listen and support them so they have a positive school experience and focus on learning.  The same goes for families – I am here for you, too!

I have been in the DMV since 2017 working as a school counselor at an independent school in DC.  Before that, I spent 15 years living and working as a school counselor for international schools in Denmark, Japan and Kuwait.  And before my time overseas, I was born, raised, educated and worked in Iowa.  Clearly I love traveling, exploring, and finding new and different experiences.  I also enjoy cooking, exercising, reading and watching TV a little too much!  Someday, I hope to become a picture book author!

IMG_2409My name is Ms. Sarnoff and this year I have joined Mr. Hisler as an additional school counselor on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  I am so excited to be part of the Hoffman-Boston team and am thrilled to have gotten the chance to meet your kind, smart, creative, and hardworking children.  I will be mainly working with our third and fourth grade All-Stars but am a listening ear for any student who may need some extra support.   Services I provide include classroom-based social-emotional learning (SEL) lessons, small-group counseling, and individual counseling.  If you are the parent or guardian of a third or fourth grader, please feel free to reach out to me at ellena.sarnoff@apsva.us with any questions or concerns.
Before coming to Hoffman-Boston I have worked as a counselor, behavioral therapist, and teacher for children of all ages.  In my spare time I like to participate in outdoor activities, eat good food, and relax with my cats.  I also love exploring new places and cultures and like to travel whenever I get the chance.

Hoffman-Boston’s comprehensive school counseling program is delivered to all students, focusing on academic, career and social emotional development.  Our main goal as school counselor is to help each and every student feel safe and happy at school and be able to focus their energy on learning…and have fun!  Working together with students, parents/care-givers, Hoffman-Boston faculty and staff, as well as community partners, we will do our best to help Hoffman-Boston students feel prepared to be successful in life!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.  We may not have all the answers, but we will work with you to find the best possible answer out there!  We are looking forward to working with the Hoffman-Boston All-Star Community!
