Grading Policy

Dear Parent or Guardian:

Hello from the Health and Physical Education Department at Hoffman-Boston Elementary School. We are looking forward to a brand new year of physical health and well being! We will be using a standards based grading system, in line with the rest of the school. We will also be following the school wide PBIS (positive behavior intervention system). We expect student to follow directions, to participate to the best of their ability and to show respect to themselves, others and surroundings. These expectations are posted in the gym and are a part of the Hoffman-Boston pledge. If a student chooses not to follow these expectations, they will be asked to take a break to reflect on their behavior. When a student can verbally explain what they have done and what they can do differently in the future, they will re enter the activity.

For your child’s safety, we strongly recommend wearing sneakers on Physical Education days. Shoes should cover the toes and give adequate support to the feet and body. Dress shoes, cowboy boots, sandals, flip flops, clogs, heels, Crocs, and shoes that are unlaced do not supply proper support during physical activities. For this reason, your child will not be able to participate during class if they are not wearing appropriate shoes. If for any reason your child must miss a class due to injury or illness, please make sure a note is sent or you contact us directly to let us know. We are looking forward to a very exciting year! Thank you for your help in making this year safe, active and fun!
