Dear Parent or Guardian:Hello from the Physical Education Department at Hoffman-Boston Elementary School. We are looking forward to a brand new year of physical health and well being! Your child’s schedule of PE days are posted on the website under the “schedule” tab and are listed by their classroom teachers name. Please refer to this information as needed to make sure your child is successful in learning while having fun during her/his time in the gym. Depending on your child’s grade level, they will be coming to PE for 60 to 120 minutes per week. PreK-2nd grade meet 60 minutes per week and 3rd-5th grades meet 120 minutes per week.Your child will receive a grade for Physical Education class. Grades are dependent on two factors: student behavior and student participation. We expect student to follow directions, to participate to the best of their ability and to show respect to themselves, others and surroundings. These expectations are posted in the gym and are a part of the Hoffman-Boston pledge. If a student chooses not to follow these expectations, they will be asked to take a break to reflect on their behavior. When a student can verbally explain what they have done and what they can do differently in the future, they will re enter the activity. If a student has to take a break three times in a six week time period, a phone call or note will be sent home. If the behavior continues, the administration will be notified to help correct the problem. If a parent or administration is contacted, your child’s grade will affected. For your child’s safety, we strongly recommend wearing sneakers on Physical Education days. Shoes should cover the toes and give adequate support to the feet and body. Dress shoes, cowboy boots, sandals, flip flops, clogs, heels, Crocs, and shoes that are unlaced do not supply proper support during physical activities. For this reason, your child will not be able to participate during class if they are not wearing appropriate shoes. If for any reason your child must miss a class due to injury or illness, please make sure a note is sent or you contact us directly to let us know. We are looking forward to a very exciting year! Thank you for your help in making this year safe, active and fun!
