Meet the Reading Team!

Dr. Jennifer Albro

I’m Dr. Albro and I serve as the literacy coach and a reading interventionist. I hail from Terre Haute, Indiana, and have lived in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Kansas City, Missouri, prior to moving to the DMV area nearly 10 years ago. I have always loved to teach kids how to read and I am fascinated by how we acquire language and learn literacy skills. After completing an undergraduate and master’s degree in early childhood education, I earned a master’s degree in reading education from the University of Missouri – Kansas City, and a doctorate in literacy, language and social inquiry from the University of Maryland. I love Hoffman Boston because we have so many students from many different countries and culturally and linguistically diverse families. I serve on the School Action Team and the Instructional Lead Teacher Team; I also support after-school programs including Lexia Lab and Legacy Readers.

Mrs. Cindy Columbo

Hello! I’m Cindy Columbo and I’m a Reading Specialist at Hoffman-Boston. In the 2015-2016 school year I made the switch to APS after teaching elementary school in Fairfax County for several years. When I started teaching in Arlington County, I worked as a first-grade teacher at Discovery ES, while completing my Reading Specialist endorsement from GMU. After working at Discovery ES, I joined the Barrett ES community for five years and enjoyed co-teaching and providing interventions (Reading Recovery, LLI, and OG) for various groups of students in the lower and upper elementary grades. I’m very excited to be supporting 4th grade this year!  I look forward to all the exciting challenges and triumphs this year has to bring! When I’m not teaching, I love to read, bake, travel, and spend time with my family and friends. I especially enjoy taking weekend excursions with my husband and two young boys as we bike through Arlington and Falls Church City and visit various parks close to our home.

Mrs. Mary Ruth Findlay

My name is Mary Ruth Findlay and this is my 19th year teaching, and my 15th at Hoffman-Boston. Hoffman-Boston is a special place due to our rich history and diversity. I will support students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade this year and work alongside classroom teachers to help plan phonics and reading instruction. I am from North Carolina, and I lived in both Houston and Austin, TX before moving to Arlington. I received my bachelor’s in education from UNC and my master’s degree from Sam Houston State. My family loves to play sports, go to the Columbia Pike library, and watch movies together. My favorite places to visit are the NC beaches and mountains.

Mrs. Tammy LaMantia

Hello!  My name is Tammy LaMantia.  This is my ninth year as a reading specialist at Hoffman-Boston and my 20th year of teaching! I am from central New York and graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a BA in Elementary Education.  I moved to the DMV almost 30 years ago and received a M.Ed in Curriculum Instruction in Reading from The University of Virginia.  I support students and teachers in 2nd and 3rd grade in the acquisition of literacy skills and strategies required to become fluent, avid readers and writers. In my free time I enjoy strength training, running, biking and READING!  Recently my husband and I became “empty nesters” as our twin daughters started their college experiences at UVA and William & Mary.  I am looking forward to another year of Reading at Hoffman Boston.
